Welcome to Classroom Craft (Rave)

Hello Everyone!! Here it is, my very first post, and I sorta feel like a nut case talking to myself! Experts say blogging can be therapeutic, though, so I am going to go with that. I teach 5th grade in South Florida, and I've been doing it for about...let's see...15 years now. Wow! That's a long time. I hadn't even realized. Reading and Language Arts with a streak of Technology thrown in, is my thing. When I'm not teaching, or thinking about teaching, or thinking about classroom decor, or thinking about implementing Common Core (Can you say frustrating?), I am spending time with my family. My wonderful hubby of 16 years, and my two kiddos. I call them my M&M's since their names both start with an M! I also spend my time catching up with all my recorded shows. Love me some TLC, Style, and Bravo! So I get a chance to watch some TV, as I tackle the pile (okay, mountain) of laundry, and I am scrolling down my DVR list, when I stumble upon a new show called "Craft Wars." I am not the craftiest of people, even though I pretend to be, and I make stellar attempts, so I figured I would watch, and get some ideas. Well, talk about ideas. I don't know if you guys have watched this show, but the series premiere was titled "Summer School." The crafters had to create a school themed playhouse using school supplies. The result was amazing, at least to me, and lots of DIY ideas that can translate into classroom decor. Here is the playhouse that won!
You can't see it but the roof is made out of composition book covers that have been Modge Podged. Great idea for a bulletin board background! The flower boxes are lined with yellow pencils. They were so cute! And the shutters were made out of rulers. So many ideas, I almost feel like changing my theme for next school year to a School House theme, but I am sticking to Zebra Chic, since I am financially invested in that one already! Stay tuned for more of that!

Hope you stick around, and share in the fun of Classroom Craft!
